Down by the River Bookshop

"What I say is, a town isn't a town without a bookstore. It may call itself a town, but unless it's got a bookstore, it knows it's not fooling a soul." ~ Neil Gaiman

SAVE THE DATE: JULY 20 & 21, 2024

Something lovely has quietly come together over the past 6 months and today I am happy to share it with you here at The Beehive.

Many of you know of a little book I wrote in memory of a delightful young woman who came into our lives for a brief and cherished season. ‘Like a Diamond in the Sky’ was written with her blessing as a love letter to the three year old nephew she would never have the chance to meet. Those who have read the book tell me they are touched by it. And with each reading, Loredana is remembered.

Last October on a chance outing to Amherstburg I mentioned the book to Meghan Desjardins at River Bookshop who expressed an interest in adding it to their inventory. Since then it has been featured as a Staff Favourite.

That same day I shared a few of my drawings asking Meghan if they might find a place at the bookshop for notecards and postcards by a local illustrator. That illustrator just happened to be me. Well, again the answer was positive. Can you see how supportive and encouraging a local independent bookseller can be?

In December of 2023, the first of my cards were offered for sale at River Bookshop. It felt like a Christmas present to me! I enjoy creating these little drawings and hope they bring a smile to someone’s day. My goal with The Beehive drawings is to evoke emotions using the fewest lines on a page. My inspiration is those moments in a day that remind us of a childhood joy, a pleasant memory, or an experience that we recognize and identify with in the simplest of terms.

The Beehive Collection

Recently I received an invitation to attend a local author event at River Bookshop during Amherstburg Art Crawl 2024.

On Saturday, July 20 upstairs at River Bookshop from 1 - 4 pm I will be joining other local authors displaying my creative projects. There will be copies of the book for sale as well as greeting cards and postcards from The Beehive collection.

Please come out, drop in, and then enjoy the whole weekend of art and activities planned in downtown Amherstburg and along the riverfront.

I hope to see you there!
